Day two of the MCB Tour Championship in Mauritius saw yesterday’s leader Dennis continue his good form while a number of other players jockeyed for position.
Welshman Philip Price shot a tidy six-under 66. The bogey start, and a one over front nine, showed no signs of what was to come. It was a birdie blitz including seven birdies for an inward 29 to leave him on 11 under for the tournament.
South Africa’s Chris Williams could not follow up his first round of 67. His round started with a bogey due to a lost ball but was followed by three birdies. “Unfortunately the putter went cold today and I couldn’t sink anything, I’m now back in the pack so going to need a low round tomorrow to move up the leader board”, said Williams.
Sweden’s Magnus Atlevi shot the low round of the day to move within three of the leader. Having had one win this year already he knows how to close the deal. His front nine of five under saw him make gains on the leader. The back nine also include three birdies and one bogey to leave him three behind.
South Africa’s David Frost shot a level-par round. “I birdied the first hole and thought maybe we’ll have some fireworks today. Unfortunately, I just missed a lot of birdie putts after that and couldn’t get it going”, he said. “I tried hard to get it going, but birdies just eluded me and I struggled read the line on the greens. You have to trust the grain and I struggled with that today” Frost concluded.
Yesterday’s leader Clark Dennis consolidated his position at the top. Six birdies with no blemishes on the card indicative of his form and a warning sign to others. He will have to be beaten come the third, and final, day of the tournament at the Legend course hosted by Constance Belle Mare Plage.
