Indian golfer Vani Kapoor is relishing her maiden KLPGA Tour start at the Hana Financial Group Singapore Women’s Open from March 7-10 and looks forward to measuring herself against a top-class field of competitors.
The 30-year-old Kapoor stands as the sole Indian flagbearer at the Tanah Merah Country Club and is committed to showcasing the prowess of Indian women’s golf, bolstered by a strong local circuit.
Having predominantly played on the Ladies European Tour, Kapoor is excited about the opportunity to compete alongside major winner Patty Tavatanakit of Thailand and top KLPGA stars such as defending champion Park Ji-young and last year’s KLPGA Tour money list winner Lee Ye-won.
Thus, Kapoor believes that a strong performance will bolster her confidence for the remainder of the LET season.
“To be able to play an event like the Hana Financial Group Singapore Women’s Open is a great opportunity because it is going to feature a lot of world-class players, and a good showing will set me for the rest of the season,” said Kapoor.
“Indian women’s golf has been on an upswing with some great performances all around, and having a good local Tour has been helpful for us.”
Kapoor began her season with a tied-36th place finish at the LET’s season-opening Magical Kenya Ladies Open, which was a solid start given her struggles towards the end of last year, where she missed the cut in four out of her last six appearances.
She is enthusiastic about continuing her momentum in Singapore and is hopeful that her dedication to training on the course will pay off with positive results.
“I started my season in Kenya, where I played alright and it was the first event of the year. My main season starts after Singapore, so I am really looking forward to it, and I also love Singapore,” said Kapoor.
“I had a good season in 2022 but 2023 was somewhat average, but I have put in a lot of work in the off-season, so I am ready for it.”
Kapoor is also looking forward to tackling the challenging Tampines Course of TMCC, which she has heard great things about.
She’ll be relying on tips from a local friend to assist her in navigating the course effectively.
“As for the course, Tanah Merah, it is a great one. I have a friend in Singapore who knows the course well, so I am hoping to get some good advice on it.”
The HFGSWO is jointly sanctioned by the Singapore Golf Association (SGA) and Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) and will form a part of the Ladies Asian Tour Series.
